Who are we?

The Protein Brewery (TPB) is a young, highly innovative company focused on creative technologies to develop and produce sustainable food ingredients using classical brewing and precision fermentation technology. We are addressing the eminent global shift from animal-based food ingredients towards a sustainable, plant-based food chain. Our team in Breda currently consists of 40 people and is growing fast. Who are we looking for?
As a Business Controller, you will support the production organization and provide product costing expertise to ensure that resources used during the production process are systematically recorded and reported to support cost and profitability strategies. In this role, you will work closely with the CFO and Operations Team to develop product cost standards that reflect the actual cost of goods produced (actual versus plan), ensure that impact on product costs are as intended when changes are proposed, and monitor the product cost process to ensure that recorded transactions reflect actual activity. You will also analyse deviations in price and usage and make improvement proposals to Operations to improve the production process.


What are your responsibilities and scope in this role?

  • •Developing a model to track actual production costs compared to the budget and the plan and explain deviations. The reported weekly, monthly and forecast reports will be the basis for The Protein Brewery to keep track of the performance of production.

  • Working close with the plant manager and staff of the plant as business partner, providing support, challenge when needed and make sure that 1 set of data is used. Proactively provide advice, solicited and unsolicited, on product costs.

  • Making simulations on cost price development in case of changes made in production set up of additional investments and large scale growth.

  • Monitoring (routinely) purchase price variances and process order variances and proactively identify, investigate and facilitate correction of price or activity errors and oversee the execution of monthly product cost estimates.

  • Monitoring fixed costs development of the organization and prepare and track the monthly management reporting together with the administrators and the CFO.

  • Supporting financial improvement projects and support the CFO on ad hoc basis (e.g. for Series B).

What does your profile look like?

We are a good match if you have...

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business Control, Business Economics or Finance & Control.

  • Proven experience in Business Control, preferably in the food industry or production.

  • Affinity with manufacturing and process technology.

  • Relevant knowledge of Excel and ERP.

  • Fits with the culture and dynamics of a scale-up company, with a dedicated team and many challenges.

  • Personal skills: analytical, accurate, solution-oriented, pragmatic,  stress resistant and flexible.

  • Excellent communication skills and fluent in Dutch and English.
