Who are we?
The Protein Brewery (TPB) is a young, highly innovative company that focuses on the development and production of sustainable food ingredients that contribute to active nutrition and healthy living. We do this using traditional brewing and fermentation techniques. We are responding to the global shift from animal-based food ingredients to a sustainable, plant-based food chain. Our team in Breda currently consists of 35 people and is growing rapidly. Who are we looking for?
The Protein Brewery develops completely new, highly nutritious food ingredients based on fermentation. We are looking for an enthusiastic Manufacturing Process Engineer who wants to contribute to making our production process more efficient and stable. A background in the food industry is required.
In your role, you will be responsible for designing, analyzing, and continuously improving production processes within a food-grade environment. You will play a key role in initiating and leading improvement projects. You will work closely with the process operators, mechanical engineer, R&D scientists, and external consultants.
What are your responsibilities and scope in this role?

Designing and optimizing production processes, with a focus on scalability and efficiency.

Identifying process bottlenecks and developing technical solutions.

Leading (Capex) improvement projects from concept to implementation.

Determining specifications and requirements for process equipment, with an eye for capacity, efficiency, and reliability.

Commissioning new installations and transferring them to production.

Ensuring compliance with food safety, process safety, and relevant laws and regulations (including ATEX, HDN, European standards).

Active participation in HAZOP studies.

You combine technical depth with project management skills.

What does your profile look like?
You are a good match with us if you have...

University or HBO degree in Chemical Engineering or similar.
-
5 – 10 years of experience in the food industry or industrial engineering.

Knowledge of ATEX, Hygienic Design and European regulations.

Experience with HAZOP and risk assessments.
-
Strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities.
-
Good communication skills and able to work effectively with production, maintenance, and quality.

Able to switch quickly between operational details and strategic project goals.
-
Proactive attitude and able to initiate and implement improvements independently.
-
Experience with scale-up processes in an innovative production environment is a plus.

Experience with project management methodologies (e.g., Prince2, Agile, Lean Six Sigma).

An affinity with sustainable and innovative protein production is a plus.
