The Protein Brewery (TPB) is a young, highly innovative company focused on creative technologies to develop and produce sustainable food ingredients using classical brewing and fermentation technologies. We are addressing the eminent global shift from animal-based food ingredients towards a sustainable, plant-based food chain. Our team in Breda, The Netherlands currently consists of 35 people and is growing fast. Who are we looking for?
The Protein Brewery is developing a completely new, highly nutritious food ingredient based on fermentation, named Fermotein®. In our pilot plant, we currently make sample material for customers and to conduct research. As we are about to scale-up, we’re looking for a new colleague who will use his/her experience and knowledge about Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) in our newly build scale-up plant, which will open soon in Breda. Your main goal will be to build and maintain overall safety and safety procedures for the whole company. Moreover, you will ensure that the scale-up plant runs according to all safety procedures without any incidents.

What are your responsibilities and scope in this role?

 

On the position of SHE officer, you are responsible for Safety and Health at our Food plant with the following accountabilities:
 

  • Establish, implement and promote health, safety and environmental policies to meet legal and regulatory obligations.

  • Make a complete plan to make the Mijkenbroek plant safe (fire alarms, fire extinguishers, FAFS officers, reporting system etc) and implement.

  • Directing, coordinating, optimizing safe and healthy working within the organization and advising on safety issues.

  • Setting up, maintaining and updating documentation around company standards (and certifications).

  • Administration and coordination (reports, improvement proposals) around incidents and accidents, to prevent recurrence and sustainably secure processes.

  • Administration and coordination around safety training. For example: VCA, BHV or forklift training.

  • Execute the role of Prevention officer.

  • Preparing and supervising external audits.

  • Performing workplace inspections and internal audits.

  • Support, conduct and follow up on risk assessments and evaluations.

  • Ensuring the required reports to appropriate parties regarding aspects of working conditions.

  • Identifying changes and developments in legislation, regulations and standards that may lead to hazardous situations.

  • Motivating employees to work in a safe and healthy way and establishing and activating safety awareness programs.

  • Provide training and toolbox sessions on health, environmental and safety issues.

  • Consultations and information exchange with external auditors, customers and suppliers regarding health, safety and environmental issues.

What does your profile look like?

We are a good match if you have...

  • An education in the field of SHE (intermediate safety science with several years of work experience (MVK) or a Bachelor degree Higher safety science (HVK));

  • Knowledge of Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental systems;

  • Current knowledge of Health, Safety and Environment laws and regulations;

  • Experience in implementing improvement projects within HSE;

  • Working experience in the field of Health, Safety & Environment at a food manufacturer;

  • High sense of responsibility and you dare to address colleagues (on the work floor) about (un)safe behavior;

  • Command of the Dutch and English language.
