Who are we?

The Protein Brewery (TPB) is a young, highly innovative company focused on creative technologies to develop and produce sustainable food ingredients using classical brewing and precision fermentation technology. We are addressing the eminent global shift from animal-based food ingredients towards a sustainable, plant-based food chain. Our team in Breda currently consists of 35 people and is growing fast. What does your profile look like?

We are a good match if you have...

  • A bachelor degree in the field of Biotechnology, for example from the Avans Hogeschool, Life Science Technology in Delft, Wageningen or any international equivalent.

  • 2 to 5 years of experience in a similar role.

  • Experience or affinity with bioreactors and/or DSP lab equipment.

  • A hands on personality with the willingness to work the flexible hours that are inherent to the nature of the fermentation work.

  • Excellent organizational, communication and planning skills.

Who are we looking for?
For our precision fermentation team we are looking for a talented Bioprocess Technician to focus on our microbial upstream (fermentation) and downstream processes (DSP). You like the challenge to optimize processes with respect to productivity and yield, are hands-on and pragmatic, a real problem solver. In the lab, you work precise and well organized, going after high quality results. Furthermore, you enjoy to interact closely with other disciplines in the group such as the our fermentation, downstream processing and molecular biology fellow brewers.


What are your responsibilities and scope in this role:

  • Performing upstream (fermentation) and downstream processes at laboratory scale.

  • Optimizing productivity, throughput and yields of these processes.

  • Optimizing fermentation conditions with respect to DSP and the final product.

  • Producing for product sampling and testing.

  • Performing necessary analyses for process characterization.

  • Preparing and analysing experiments in collaboration with senior team members.

  • Ensuring good maintenance of laboratory equipment.

  • Improving and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and laboratory workflows.
