The Protein Brewery (TPB) is a young, highly innovative company focused on creative technologies to develop and produce sustainable food ingredients using classical brewing and precision fermentation technology. We are addressing the eminent global shift from animal-based food ingredients towards a sustainable, plant-based food chain. Our team in Breda currently consists of 40 people and is growing fast. Who are we looking for?
As a Mechanical Engineer, you will work closely with the operations team and other departments. You will focus on managing the technical aspects of large-scale projects, such as designing and developing plant layouts, evaluating and integrating new logistics systems and checking project deliverables from our engineering partners. These responsibilities include all development phases, from brainstorming and evaluating concepts to troubleshooting and support on the factory floor during and after commissioning.
What are your responsibilities and scope in this role?

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will design and develop production systems for our Demonstration Plant.

By evaluating and selecting existing or new technologies and equipment, you know how to improve production outputs.

You actively collaborate with external technology suppliers to evaluate best practices and develop sustainable partnerships essential for future projects.

You are able to analyse and understand complex logistics simulations and provide input to build these models together with external parties and develop improvements based on the simulation results.

You make cost estimates at strategic level and know how to select the best possible solution using multi-criteria analysis, balancing capex and opex.

You convert project ideas, in collaboration with the Performance Improvement Manager, into modular and scalable blueprints for future facilities.

You actively seek the balance between in-house engineering and external expertise, manage the budget and timeline of sub-projects and generate appropriate technical documentation, such as manuals, drawings and diagrams.

Collaboration with colleagues from Operations, R&D and other departments is essential to stay ahead of industry developments.

Co-responsible for establishing and managing the Plant's preventive maintenance plan.
What does your profile look like?
We are a good match if you have...

You have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in mechanical engineering or mechatronics.

You have at least 5 years' experience in mechanical engineering in the process industry and/or food industry.

You have experience in project management.

You have knowledge and experience in the field of (preventive) maintenance.

You enjoy working in a rapidly changing work environment.

You are able to translate technical topics into easy-to-understand business terms and can align stakeholders both internally and externally.

You are not afraid to roll up your sleeves and do not mind occasional tinkering yourself.

You can design and structure projects independently.

You have strong skills in strategic planning, goal setting, process development and budgeting.

You are a creative thinker and able to find innovative solutions to technical challenges.

Knowledge of both Dutch and English in both word and writing.

Experience in a start-up/scale-up organisation is a plus.
